human trafficking

WHAT IS IT?

Human trafficking is the exploitation of humans for purposes such as sexual and labor servitude where something of value is exchanged (money, food, housing, drugs, etc.) through the means of force, fraud or coercion.

Force, fraud or coercion does not need to be present for minors under 18**

Human trafficking isn’t random. It targets unmet needs & vulnerabilities. Meeting those basic needs and expanding opportunity helps close the doors traffickers may try to open.

"Survivors have taught us that traffickers expertly seek out people whose specific need they can fill. Sometimes they dangle material support – a good job, a safe place to stay, drugs. Often what they offer is less tangible but just as vital – the illusion of love, belonging, safety or acceptance."

MEETING NEEDS = REDUCING VULNERABILITY
