human trafficking?
What is
Human trafficking is the exploitation of humans for purposes such as sexual and labor servitude where something of value is exchanged (money, food, housing, drugs, etc.) through the means of force, fraud or coercion.
Force, fraud or coercion does not need to be present for minors under 18**
CASES OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN ALL 95 COUNTIES OF TENNESSEE.
"It doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It is the end result of a range of other persistent injustices and inequities in our society and our economy."
(Polaris, 2021)
The Freed Life team has been serving survivors of trafficking in Memphis for over 10 years under the name, Restore Corps. In Fall 2023, Restore Corps launched as a new 501(c)3 - Freed Life. With deep experience in trauma-informed care and a commitment to continual learning, we remain dedicated to supporting the resilience, strength, and stories of the survivors we serve.
We work to identify nexuses of unserved victims and team for a solution, including court diversion for individuals arrested for prostitution, programming in the women's prison, & more. Our team also provides expertise regarding TN legislation.
Our Approach
Us together for life after "The Life"
We provide wraparound, trauma-responsive, strengths-based care for survivors of human trafficking, adult or youth. Services range from crisis stabilization to community based care to emergency housing support, and more.
We engage the community on how to
identify victims, prevent exploitation,
and end the cycle of demand. We offer education and training to adults, youth, churches, professionals, and community members upon request.
